Odisha is set to witness a major transformation in its education sector as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that nearly 800 schools across the state will be upgraded into model educational institutes under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

This initiative aims to improve the quality of school education by introducing modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, digital learning facilities, and innovative teaching methods. The move is expected to significantly strengthen the educational ecosystem in Odisha and create better learning opportunities for students.
Smart Classrooms and Digital Learning to Boost Education
According to the announcement, the selected schools will be equipped with advanced digital education tools, including smart classrooms and technology-driven teaching systems.
The PM SHRI scheme focuses on creating a safe, modern, and engaging learning environment where students can develop not only academic excellence but also practical skills, creativity, and innovation.
This transformation aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes holistic education and skill development.
Odisha Education Budget Gets Major Push
In another major highlight, the Odisha government has allocated more than ₹31,997 crore for the School and Mass Education Department in the 2026–27 budget.
The state government has also taken strong steps to improve teacher availability by appointing 20,000 teachers in the past one-and-a-half years and planning the recruitment of another 45,000 teachers in the coming phase.
This budget allocation reflects the government’s commitment to improving public education infrastructure and ensuring quality teaching across urban and rural schools.
Focus on Every Panchayat
The Chief Minister also revealed that efforts are underway to establish Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools in every panchayat, which could further strengthen primary education in remote areas.
This step is expected to improve educational accessibility and reduce the gap between urban and rural learning standards.
A Big Step for Odisha’s Future
The transformation of 800 schools into model institutes is being seen as a significant milestone for Odisha’s education system.
With better classrooms, improved infrastructure, more teachers, and digital learning resources, the initiative could help thousands of students receive quality education and prepare for future careers.
